"There is one world in common for those who are awake, but when men are asleep each turns away into a world of his own."

Heraclitus, 2500 years ago

Consensus reality is a shared sense of facts. A sense of an objective, knowable reality which acts as a unifying force for society. Pre-internet, the main sources of information were sparse, which led to a higher cohesion of consensus reality. As the internet evolve and news sources became more individualised though algorithmic serving of bespoke information, consensus reality shattered into millions of tiny confirmation bias echo chambers.
