First we need to define what fascism and totalitarianism is. A common example of fascism is what happened in Germany in the 1930's. Fascism often occur when a country suffers and economic disaster like hyperinflation and people lose faith in the ruling power. A sub faction of the ruling power then militarises and performs a coup in order to "save the sinking ship". The faction often rises to power via demagoguery of a charismatic leader such as Hitler which appeals to the primal, emotion instincts of the crowd.
