Evolution has shaped our sensory systems to guide adaptive action, not to show us the true nature of reality. We must take our perceptions seriously, but we should not take them literally. By inducing Pivotal Mental States we aim to see the lens by which we all see and then focus in on heuristics and cognitive biases and subtract them from perception to get a better view of what is really going on.
