Before we do anything, first we need to look what has come before. There have been many great movements which have started with good intentions but have ultimately failed. The first thing to know is idealism can start a movement in desperate people. When people start to follow a power dynamic starts to generate. One person can have huge control over others, with the main person this can be overwhelming, power corrupts a once idealistic spark endeavours to be a long term flame and believe sacrifices need to be made. | Before we do anything, first we need to look what has come before. Past movements did not have technology we have today. In Plato's Republic, there is the story of the Ring of Gyges which was apparently the inspiration for Tolkien's idea of Lord of the Rings. The Ring of Gyges is a thought experiment, Plato postulates if someone were given a ring which makes them invisible they would have a choice. The could either go rob a bank or anonymously help a homeless person. Which do you think 100% of people would choose, unfortunately its the former. No one is fully altruistic. However, what of the opposite? Invisibility was an easy thing to think of, you are there or you arent, a simple story for its time. But what if the ring did the opposite? i.e. instead of hiding the human being from everyone, it shows everything that is done to everyone. An anti-gyges, its the principle of CCTV if you are watched, recorded and published openly you are unlikely to do anything wrong. | Past movements did not have technology we have today. This should be the minimum we expect from someone in political office. | ||
