Evolution has shaped our sensory systems to guide adaptive action, not to show us the true nature of reality. We must take our perceptions seriously, but we should not take them literally. By inducing Pivotal Mental States we aim to see the cognitive lens by which we all see. We believe there are heuristics and cognitive biases which cloud our perception and we aim to subtract them to get a better view of our common world view.
